Position title and Grade: Research and Training Officer—P3
Duty Station: Addis Ababa, Ethiopia
Reports to: Director of CEWARN

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

 

Summary;

Under the overall direction of the Director of CEWARN Office, the Research and Training Officer is responsible for operational research and training in Conflict Early Warning & Response and CPMR; institutional and functional capacity building; harmonization, coordination and development of a regional research & training policy and Plan of Action; and networking with Civil Society organizations.  Specific functions include:-

 

· Develop and implement policies and procedures for research, establish benchmarks to evaluate effectiveness of research;

· Plan, prepare and recommend annual budget for research & training that will enhance research & training capabilities; 

· Coordinate and conduct studies and researches in Conflict Early Warning and Response  fields that is pertinent to the office;

· Develop the Resource Centre by installing dual electronic documentation system;

· Maintain electronic subscription and procurement of essential publications from OSSREA, UNECA and other relevant sources;

· Ensure implementation of the CEWARN training manual;

· Liaise with Member States and work with focal persons in the member states to harmonize and organize national and regional training;

· Organize training and re-training to meet training targets in the Area of Reporting;

· Coordinate with Partners, Organization & Institutions and organize CPMR (Conflict Prevention, Management & Resolution) training for CEWERU Steering and Local Peace Committees in the Member States;

· Collect and review training need assessment, analysis and organize training to meet identified training priorities;

· Commission internal, external and specialist trainers managing relationships, negotiation, contracts, evaluation and issues that arise;

· Work with Member States and various partners to organize and deliver joint training events and multi-agency training programmes, and organize a National pool of trainers in all the Member States;

· Promote all aspects of training and development to encourage a culture of lifelong learning and continuous professional development;

· Contribute to and coordinate to finalize the publication of the Gender Resource Guide/Training Manual;

· Compile periodic reports and strategy documents;

· Organize and deliver networking workshops with Civil Society Organizations to widen information sources;

· Produce and submit periodic reports on activities and specific assignments;

· Carry out any other related duties as may be assigned by the Director of CEWARN Office.

 

Education:             Masters Degree in Social Science or related field

 

Experience:           A minimum of 7 years of experience in related field of which 3 years is in research and training

 

Skills and Abilities:

 

· Excellent interpersonal and communication skills:

· Ability to successfully interact with a variety of people on different levels;

· Proven writing skills: the ability to successfully write and edit professional documents;

· Solid organizational skills: the ability to work productively in a fast-paced environment and the ability to manage a multi-faceted workload under strict deadlines;

· Flexible work attitude: the ability to work productively in a team environment & independently;

· Ability to act with sensitivity and discretion while working with highly confidential information;

· Computer skills: internet search engines, data retrieval services, MS Word, Excel.

 

Language requirements:    Fluency in one of the working languages (English/French) is required.

                                                   Proficiency in the other is an added advantage.

 

Age:                                          30 - 50

 

Tenure of Appointment:    The appointment is for three years (3) years renewable subject to

                                                   satisfactory  performance and availability of project fund

 

Remuneration:                      US $28,430 per annum plus other benefits
